Courts/Legal Issues States - Other States Sikkim Govt mulls new verification law Sarikah Atreya Gangtok, Aug 31 The Sikkim Government has proposed the enactment of a law for the compulsory verification of all tenants, domestic and professional helps in Sikkim. A draft for the proposed law, the Sikkim Tenants and Domestic, Professional Helps (Compulsory Verification) Act 2008 is now doing rounds, soliciting the views of people before the proposed law is enacted. According to the draft copy, the objective is to make it legally obligatory for house-owners to report the details of their tenants to the nearest police station within a month of the notification of the Act. ExemptionsTenancy provided exclusively for office accommodation of any State Government or public sector undertaking, industry, commercial organisations or establishments or institutions registered and operating in Sikkim have been exempted. Holders of Sikkim-subject certificates or certificates of identification, voter’s identity cards or ration cards, and for serving or retired Government or public sector undertaking officials and their dependents are also exempted.
