HTMT plans to tap travel, mortgages space

Adith Charlie

Mumbai, Aug. 31 HTMT Global Solutions, the back office firm promoted by the Hinduja Group, will more than double its overall employee base by 2010.

In order to capitalise on the opportunities in the business process outsourcing space across the globe, the Bangalore-based company will need around 30,000 employees on its rolls in the next two years, as against 14,000 employees currently, Mr Partha De Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer, told Business Line.

Strategy

The company intends to hire aggressively in low-cost destinations across the globe as it continues with the strategy of tapping into geographies and countries that are not in the radar of its competitors. The company was one of the first Indian BPOs to set up a base in the Philippines, back in 2003. Last year, HTMT opened a centre in Durgapur, West Bengal. HTMT is aggressively looking at providing outsourcing services to the travel and mortgages industry, in spite of global slowdown negatively impacting these sectors. Every downturn creates opportunities, according to Mr Sarkar.

“In the travel space, though aviation companies are reducing their capital expenditure or capex spend, they will continue outsourcing their back office work as most of it is a part of the company’s operating expenditure or opex. Reducing opex spends through off-shoring is very important for these companies,” he said.

Similarly, the company wants to build capabilities for providing mortgage processing services at a time when the largest market for such services, the US, is facing a liquidity crunch.
