Tea Coonoor tea volumes touch 4-week high P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Sept. 2 For the third consecutive week, volume offered for sale at the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) has increased. For Sale No. 36 to be held on Thursday and Friday, a volume of 11.60 lakh kgs has been catalogued. This is the highest volume of the last four weeks. It is 51,000 kgs more than the offer of last week. It is as much as 1.58 lakh kgs more than the volume offered this time last year. Fresh arrivals account for 10.34 lakh kgs. The balance comprises teas remaining unsold in previous auctions. Of the 11.60 lakh kgs on offer, 8.41 lakh kgs belong to leaf grades and 3.19 lakh kgs belong to dust grades. Again, as much as 10.88 lakh kgs belong to CTC variety and only 0.72 lakh kgs to orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.29 lakh kgs belong to orthodox, while 8.12 lakh kgs are CTC. Among the dusts, 0.43 lakh kgs belong to orthodox while 2.76 lakh kgs to CTC.
