Good demand for orthodox leaf tea at Coimbatore sale

Coimbatore, Sept 2

The total offerings of tea at the weekly auction held here on Friday amounted to 4.70 lakh kg with leaf grades accounting for 2 lakh kg and the balance 2.70 lakh kg of dust.

There was a good demand for orthodox leaf. Well made Nilgiri larger leaf and brokens remained steady, fannings quoted lower by Re 1-Rs 2. Internal demand was limited. The CIS and West Asia extended fair support.

Limited quantities of orthodox dust sold at irregular rates. There were some withdrawals. CTC leaf witnessed only fair demand.

HUL absent

Best sorts were quoting lower, medium bolder grades ruled steady and the remaining teas were lower by up to Rs 2/ kg. HUL was absent, Tata silent, internal demand limited and exporters operated only on bolder grades.

Popular good liquoring CTC dust grades remained steady to lower up to Rs 2, mediums lower by Rs 2 with some withdrawals. Plainer teas were barely steady. Exporters were selective. Pakistan exporters refrained from buying.
