BEL wins SCOPE award

Bangalore, Sept. 4 Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has won the SCOPE Meritorious Award for R&D, Technology Development and Innovation for 2006-07. The PSU had earlier won the SCOPE (Standing Conference of Public Enterprises) Award for 2005-06 for its contribution to public sector management in the Medium PSE category. The award will be presented by Mr Sontosh Mohan Dev, Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, a BEL release said. During the period 2004-05 to 2006-07, BEL progressively increased its annual R&D investment respectively to around Rs 127 crore, Rs 130 crore and Rs 140 crore, or close to four per cent of the turnover or about 15 per cent of its gross profit. It developed the ATM-based Integrated Ship-borne Data Network, frequency hopping radios, secured hand-held VHF/UHF radios, land/sea/air-based communication system, battlefield surveillance system, among others.
