Firm trend at Kochi tea sales

Kochi, Sept. 4 Exporters continued to be active at the leaf sale of Kochi tea auction, mainly in orthodox varieties, while blenders and interstate buyers continued to operate at the CTC counters.

Meanwhile, exporters were not active at the dust auction where major blenders lent support to good liquoring teas.

Domestic market buyers were also active at the dust counters.

There was 8,29,000 kgs of dust tea on offer and good general demand propped up the price of CTC dust by Rs 5-10.

Bolder CTC was steady. Orthodox high grown dust was dearer, while medium orthodox was steady.

Best CTC dust fetched Rs 90-105, medium CTC quoted Rs 85-95 and below medium ranged at Rs 69-80.

High grown BOPD was at Rs 89-118, medium BOPD fetched Rs 68-70 and secondaries were at Rs 63-65.

Leaf Sale

There was 3,06,000 kgs of leaf tea at the auction, where orthodox high grown remained firm to dearer.

Medium orthodox was steady to dearer following quality, while poorer orthodox quoted lower.

CTC varieties witnessed good general demand, while orthodox varieties continued to witness good demand from exporters.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 95-125, medium orthodox quoted Rs 85-105 and plain orthodox was at Rs 72-80. Best CTC leaf was at Rs 73-78 while medium CTC fetched Rs 66-72.

Top Prices

In the dust segment, Pasuparai SFD and Pasuparai FD fetched the top price at Rs 123 followed by Kodanad BOPD at Rs 118 and Pasuparai RD at Rs 108.

In the leaf segment, Chamraj FOP and Chamraj OP fetched the top price at Rs 147, followed by Glendale CLOP at Rs 145 and Nonsuch FOP and Grahamsland TFBOP at Rs 142.
