Challenging tasks

This refers to the editorial “Taking fresh guard” (Business Line, September 3). The new RBI Governor, Dr D. Subbarao, indeed has a challenging task before him as the inflationary trend shows little signs of obeying monetary diktats. Crude oil prices tend to fluctuate on account of global reasons. And it is not certain whether this will continue.

The RBI will have to infuse a different set of corrective steps for keeping the price rise under control. Further interest hikes may ignite setting more inflationary trends.
