CTCs witness good demand at Kolkata sale

Kolkata, Sept. 7 Last week, the CTC teas once again met with strong demand with selected fannings larger brokens and dusts tending dearer at times. The major blender was active and there was good support from Tata Tea and other packeteers. Western India buyers supported the liquoring categories while other internal and local buyers as well as exporters operated as usual.

Darjeeling better whole leaf was dearer but remained irregular around last. Fannings ruled steady and brokens were on easier trend. Traditional exporters and packeteers operated. There were some enquiries from the UK/Continent and local buyers.

In the orthodox sale, the whole leaf and bolder brokens were irregularly lower while smaller brokens tended firm. Fannings were barely steady and occasionally easier.

The West Asian and the CIS shippers were active, along with some enquiries from the major blender.

Most plantations districts reported heavy rainfall and a decline in the daily green leaf intakes.

INTERNATIONAL

The Mombassa market was irregular following quality. The Pakistani and Egyptian packers were less forceful while the UK and Kazakhstan made good enquiries.

The Colombo auction saw a dearer market except for the low growns, which were lower. The traditional exporters operated at levels following quality.
