HSL officers voice grievance

Visakhapatnam, Sept. 7

The Hindustan Shipyard Officers' Association has expressed disappointment over the downgrading of the public sector unit by the Justice Jagannadha Rao Commission on pay revision and has urged the Union Minister for Heavy Industry, Mr Santosh Mohan Dev, to do it justice.

In a letter to the Union Minister, the association has noted that despite the excellent performance of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in the recent past, the commission has decided to place it in Category C. "HSL has always been in Category B, and it is unfortunate that the commission has chosen to downgrade it.

The performance of HSL during the past four-and-a-half years has not been taken into account," says the letter. The order book position of HSL, which was Rs 210 crore in 2002-03, has risen to Rs 1,943.5 crore and the income has gone up from Rs 127 crore to Rs 510 crore.

The association, headed by Mr A. Radhakrishna Murthy, has pointed out to the Union Minister that the officials stand to lose heavily if the commission does not take into cognisance the performance of HSL and restore the earlier grade. - Our Bureau
