Symposium on automation in food microbiology

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Sept. 8 For the first time in India, a workshop and symposium on rapid methods and automation in microbiology has been organised.

Scheduled to be conducted during October 15-17 at the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University in Hyderabad, the event will bring together prominent speakers from academia, industry and the Government to share their expert views on food safety issues.

Food processing is considered a sunrise industry and large investments are flowing into the sector to meet rising demand for processed foods. Consumer awareness about food safety, hygiene and sanitation means the industry must gear itself up to meet consumer needs.

Conducted under the overall supervision and direction of Dr Beth Ann Crozier-Dodson, a globally recognised expert in rapid methods education from the Kansas State University’s food safety and security centre, the event will provide hands-on training in rapid methods.

Microbiologists, quality assurance managers, food scientists, food technologists, laboratory technicians and food processing industry entrepreneurs are the target participants.

Food handling and sanitation, compliance with national food laws, innovations in rapid testing methods and several other related topics would be covered in the symposium.
