Replanting: Poor response from South

Coonoor, Sept. 8

South India is lagging behind in seeking funds from the Tea Board for replantation/rejuvenations. According to Mr Basudev Banerjee, the board’s Chairman, so far 752 applications have been received to replant/rejuvenate 11,477 hectares. “Most of the applications are from Assam, Dooars and Terai regions, while response from South has been poor. Maybe, labour shortage in the estates is a reason but plantations should come forward to utilise the fund,” he sai d.
