Spot rubber stays steady

Aravindan

Kottayam, Sept 9 Physical rubber prices finished almost steady on Tuesday.

The widespread rains in plantation areas made tapping almost impossible. Supply concerns continued to disrupt the trading activities in the main marketing centres but major grades remained flat on strong buyer resistance.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 closed unchanged at Rs 141 a kg as on Monday. There were no fresh quotes from major consuming industries and the market is expected to remain in a holiday mood in the days ahead till Onam.

Meanwhile, the rubber futures fell back in the Japanese markets followed by declines in oil and precious metals futures coupled with Yens strength against Dollar.

On the domestic front, the trend was mixed as ungraded rubber and latex improved by 50 paise on scattered transactions. RSS 3 declined at its September contract to ¥327.9 (Rs.136.12) from ¥333.4, October to ¥322.7 (328.2), November to ¥318.1 (324.2), December to ¥311.8 (318.2), January to ¥308.1 (314.5) and February to ¥306.8 (313.9) a kg at TOCOM. RSS 3 (spot) improved to Rs 133.18 (132.15) a kg at Bangkok.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 141 (141); RSS-5: 138 (138); ungraded: 136 (135.50); ISNR 20: 130 (130) and Latex 60 per cent: 81 ( 80.50).
