Rishi Kumar Hyderabad, Sept. 9 More enterprises are migrating to Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system and independent research reports indicate that about 70 per cent of the enterprise users will drift to Vista by next year. The Senior Vice-President and Global Practice Head, Infrastructure Management Services (IMS), Satyam Computer, Mr Nick Sharma, told Business Line that Satyam had already ported Vista in 17,000 computers and expects to cover all its enterprise wide users over 51,000 by next year. Mr Sharma said the new operating system had in-built security and multi-tasking features and hence would bring in more users to the fold. Quoting independent research surveys that of Gartner, Mr Sharma said that by the year-end, about 25-30 per cent of XP users are likely to move to Vista and by next year, this number is poised to grow to about 70 per cent. Explaining the reasons migrate to Windows Vista, Mr Sharma said it improved user productivity by making it easier to find and use information, helped in better collaboration with mobile workforce, protected data with in-built security features and lastly reduced cost and complexity of deploying and managing IT infrastructure. As a technology partner of Microsoft, Satyam has created an Application Compatibility Lab that helps rapidly deploy Vista and also migrate to it. This is both for Satyam’s use internally and for its infrastructure clients globally, Mr Sharma said. Asked about some of the concerns expressed by individual users on slow booting of Vista, Mr Sharma said this was because it had a lot of applications built in internally, including security.
