L&T bags $160-m order

Mumbai, Sept 10 Larsen & Toubro said on Wednesday it has bagged its largest ever order from South America. The heavy engineering division of the company has won a $160-million (over Rs 700 crore) order for manufacture and supply of 10 hydrotreating reactors and 12 coke drums for Petrobras’ two lakh barrels per day (bpd) Northeast Refinery Project in Brazil, a news release from the company said.

Both the reactors and the coke drums will be delivered to Brazil in the financial year 2010-11.The company has embarked on an expansion program at its manufacturing facility in Hazira, Gujarat, as they expect major developments in the global hydrocarbon industry, said the release. The facility at Hazira has been rated as one of largest integrated manufacturing centres situated on a port.

The company also has a new heavy fabrication facility under construction in Sohar in Oman. This facility will manufacture critical equipment for refineries, petrochemical and fertiliser projects and also other process industries. L&T’s stock fell 0.8 per cent in a declining market, to close at Rs 2,714.65.
