Industry concerned over ‘dual pricing for diesel’

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Sept. 10

Industry associations have expressed concern over the proposal put forth by the State-owned oil marketing companies to introduce ‘dual pricing for diesel’ as the move, they anticipate, could trigger the price charged for diesel used for industrial purposes.

Exporters contend that the two-tier pricing would have a detrimental effect on the industries.

Tirupur Exporters Association President, Mr A. Sakthivel, said that the units were already reeling under pressure due to load shedding and were forced to resort to captive generation, leading to increase in manufacturing costs.

The garment exporters, because of their commitment to the buyers were unable to alter or reduce their production activities. They are also unable to revise the pricing. Hence, the exporting units should at least be exempted from this dual price for diesel, he said.

While pleading for exemption, he has also requested the Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, to take up the matter with the Central Government.
