Non-conventional Energy States - Maharashtra CREDA to open bids for Tatapani geothermal field Rahul Wadke Mumbai, Sept. 10 Chhattisgarh State Renewable Development Agency (CREDA) would be opening bids for surveyors cum developers at Tatapani geothermal field within a month. The estimated capacity of the 100-acre field is more than 100 MW of power. The field would require an investment of about Rs 500 crore. Talking to Business Line, Mr S.K. Shukla, Executive Director of CREDA, said that in the first phase a survey would be undertaken to find the exact potential of the field. Upon completion of the survey, the surveyor cum developer would develop the field. Companies such as Tata Power, Bhilwara Energy and Reliance Energy have shown keen interest in developing the field, he said. Mr Shukla said that the field would be developed using a binary cycle system. In a binary cycle, geothermal plant water or steam from the geothermal reservoir never comes in contact with the turbine/generator units. The water from the geothermal reservoir is used to heat another “working fluid”, which is vaporised and used to turn the turbine/generator units. Tata tie-upMumbai-based GeoSyndicate Power Pvt Ltd is also keen on developing the field. It has already entered into a memorandum of understanding with Tata Power, for developing the field. The company will act as an advisor and will receive royalty from Tata Power. It could also explore the possibility of working with Tata Power for other projects, sources in GeoSyndicate said.
