Outlook Daikin enhancing presence Bindu D. Menon New Delhi, Sept. 10 Japanese air-conditioning giant Daikin Airconditioning India Pvt Ltd (DAIPL) is chalking out plans to expand its presence both in the residential and commercial segment. The company is targeting a Rs 1,000-crore turnover by 2010 with its new plant commencing operations by the end of this year. “Airport modernisation and growth in the retail sector is a huge opportunity for us. We anticipate sales to grow by 30-40 per cent,” said Mr Toshiki Hayashi, Managing Director, DAIPL. Neemrana facilityThe company has recently set up a manufacturing facility in Neemrana to establish its presence in the Indian market for VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volumes) systems and chiller units with an investment of Rs 140 crore. The factory is scheduled to begin commercial production by September 2009. Mr Hayashi said the factory will also cater to the export markets namely Pakistan, Bangladesh and West Asia. According to him, in the first phase, the Neemrana plant would be equipped to manufacture 20,000 VRV units and 1,800 chiller units a year. The company, which was so far catering to the residential and commercial AC market in the country through imports, posted a revenue of Rs 400 crore. In the residential segment, Daikin sells air-conditioners with capacities of one tonne and 1.5 tonnes. While in the commercial segment, ACs have capacities ranging from two tonnes to 60 tonnes. “We will be increasing our retail in the residential segment as well. So far, we have been operating through the distributor route, however, we will be soon entering the retail channel as well,” he added.
