An analysis of the Market Reports shows that this happened as teas fetched higher price even as the volume sold increased.

In all, 3.43 crore kgs were sold against 2.34 crore kgs. On an average, every kg fetched Rs 14 more to rise to Rs 59.24.

Consequently, the overall earnings rose to Rs 203.19 crore from Rs 105.91 crore. This marked an increase of Rs 97.28 crore or 92 per cent.

Earnings rose for both the orthodox and CTC teas. The bulk of the sale was CTC teas. Of the 3.43 crore kgs, CTC teas accounted for 3.20 crore kgs. In the same months last year, 2.14 crore kgs had been sold. Prices rose to an average of Rs 59.03 a kg from Rs 44.24.

The higher prices have helped better returns for the small growers.
