Environment States - Karnataka Green Idea Lab to help sustainability Our Bureau Bangalore, Sept. 11 Consider this: The world’s marketed energy consumption is projected to increase by 50 per cent from 2005 to 2030. The resultant ecological cost of damage is not known yet. Celebrities and corporates, the world over, are doing their bit to promote a ‘green’ world. In the real estate sector, the accent is on green buildings. It is in this scenario that the commercial launch of The Green Idea Lab (GIL), the research and innovation wing of the Bangalore-based eco-construction company Biodiversity Conservation India Ltd (BCIL), on Wednesday, gains significance. GIL would provide design and consulting services to individuals, corporates, builders and SME industries to develop sustainable communities or achieve energy efficiencies. According to Mr Chandrashekhar Hariharan, CEO, BCIL, GIL offerings aim to combine environment with economic sustainability. The green business enterprise is expected to impact investments worth $2 billion on green buildings and innovative building management systems in India in a span of 3-4 years. Sustainable buildings and envelopes of up to three million sq ft are likely to benefit from GIL, which would help them in effective resource management. The suite of services for corporations, small and medium industries include complete waster management from garbage collection to disposal (even generating cash from waster), bio-mass planning, and energy management. For individuals, GIL would provide architectural solutions based on the micro-climate of the location, aesthetics, and the incorporation of sustainable technologies. Builders and developers who plan to incorporate sustainable technology practices in their buildings can use GIL as a partner, and outsource complete architectural design and drawing services to GIL.
