IIRM to expand training services

G. Naga Sridhar

Hyderabad, Sept. 12 The Institute of Insurance and Risk Management (IIRM) will be expanding its consultancy and customised training programmes for insurance companies, according to Mr Vepa Kamesam, its Managing Director.

“We have been approached by some big names in the industry for the purpose and there will be more traction in this area shortly,” Mr Kamesam told Business Line.

The institute, set up jointly by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) and Government of Andhra Pradesh, has a tie-up with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance to train its prospective employees in various operational aspects of insurance. “For ICICI Prudential life alone, we will run two special batches for the next two years to train about 60 people. We will be starting a similar course for other companies as well,” he said.

More interactions

The institute’s interaction with industry has been growing. “This will help in designing more hands-on courses for the financial services sector,” he said. It has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chartered Insurance Institute, London, to get its affiliate status. “We are jointly working on promoting continuous professional development programmes in insurance and risk management, such as bancassurance,” Mr Kamesam said.
