NHPC to assess carbon credit revenue

Kolkata, Sept. 12

NHPC Ltd has initiated the process to appoint a consultant to assess the total carbon credit revenue generation potential of the company. “The appointment of consultant and assessment of potential is expected to be over in 2008-09,” NHPC’s CMD, Mr S.K. Garg, told media persons here on Friday. The company recently bagged the host country approval for carbon credit for two of its smaller projects – the 45-MW Nimoo Bazgo and the 44-MW Chutak hydroelect ric stations in Jammu & Kashmir. On the proposed IPO, Mr Garg said that the draft red herring prospectus was yet to receive final approval from the SEBI. The NHPC chairman, however, ruled out the possibility of restructuring its equity capital. The company’s paid-up equity capital was Rs 11,500 crore, due to expand further following the IPO, while the turnover amounted to Rs 3,000 crore.
