Stock Markets Columns - Ear to the ground Despite decent IIP numbers and soothing inflation numbers, the Indian market ended sharply lower; the BSE Sensex tumbled 2.26 per cent and the NSE’s S&P CNX Nifty lost 1.44 per cent. According to brokers, two prominent foreign institutional investors resorted to heavy selling. Marketmen said they offloaded shares in basket selling on index stocks, particularly during the closing hours. Under basket selling, an investor can buy or sell all shares in an index in the same proportion. According to a provisional data, FIIs have offloaded about Rs 1,500 crore of equities in cash segment.
