Cars Corporate - New Projects Government - Politics
Our Bureau Kolkata, Sept. 12 The third round of talks between the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and Trinamool Congress leader, Ms Mamata Banerjee, failed to provide a breakthrough to the impasse over return of land from within the Tata Motors small car project area in Singur to the “unwilling farmers”. Mr Bhattacharjee held an unscheduled meeting with Ms Banerjee this evening. It lasted for over an hour. Ms Banerjee later told newspersons that while it had been agreed that “maximum amount of land from within the project area” would be returned, the State government on Friday said that it could return a maximum of 70 acres from within the project site. The Chief Minister did not speak to the media till the time of going to press. Ms Banerjee insisted that the State government abide by the agreement that was reached on Sunday last after two rounds of discussions with the Chief Minister to resolve the imbroglio. “The agreement categorically stated that maximum amount of land will be returned from within the project area. Discussions were held in the presence of the Governor of the State and he had issued a statement to this effect. We are ready to abide by the agreement and we want the State government to abide by the agreement as well,” she said. Available landIn his statement, the Governor had said “the Government has taken a decision to respond to the demands of those farmers who have not received compensation, by means of land to be provided to the maximum within the project area and the rest in adjacent areas as early as possible”. ‘Trinamool demand for 300 acres rejected’ Work suspension at Singur will continue: Tata Motors Tata Motors gearing up to pull out from Singur More Stories on : Cars | New Projects | Politics | Tata Motors Ltd
