Air Cargo Foreign players in air freight
India accounts for a meagre three per cent of an estimated 27-million-tonne global air freight market. This, however, does not deter foreign air freight operators from expanding their services to and from the country. As Malaysia Airlines Cargo (MASkargo) acquires on lease a new A300-600 freighter, it plans to expand its services to various destinations, including Chennai. MASkargo already runs services to and from Chennai. The proposed service will be an additional one. T he A300-600 aircraft is a medium capacity freighter, offering around 42 tonnes of payload, and its twin engines consume less fuel than the four-engine Boeing B-747, making it an ideal aircraft for flights lasting around five hours. Leased for one year from Air Atlanta Icelandic, the freighter is to cater to seasonal cargo on specific routes and may also be used for charters. Meanwhile, SAS Cargo, the Scandinavian air freight and mail carrier, has announced the launch of a new service between Copenhagen and New Delhi. According to the schedule, there will be three flights every week in each direction and each flight can carry approximately 16 tonnes of payload. SAS Cargo has appointed InterGlobe as its general sales agent in Delhi. OUR BUREAU More Stories on : Air Cargo
