Marketing - Channels and Franchises
‘Franchising industry growing’

Bangalore, Sept. 14

The Indian franchising industry, pegged at Rs 16,000 crore, is growing at 30 to 35 per cent every year. Though over 50 per cent of the franchising is in the retail sector, other areas that are using evolved franchising practices now are education, health and beauty, food and beverages, and real estate. Speaking to Business Line at the 16th Franchise and Retail Show here on Sunday, Mr Gaurav Marya, President, Franchise India Holdings Ltd, said there were franchising opportunities in business services such as HR practices, legal practices, housekeeping services and documentation services. The Indian franchising industry has over 1,000 franchise concepts (brands being franchised) and over 100,000 franchisees. “Though 50 per cent of the current business comes from retail, there is room for advanced business format franchising where franchisees are given the technology, the management training and brand building expertise.” —
