Letters Bomb blasts The Delhi bomb blasts should be viewed with concern, as such blasts are now taking place in different cities. Obviously, the national security agencies have not been able to put down the acts of terrorists. What we need is a better strategy and a new approach to tackle such attacks. It should also be examined dispassionately as to whether rampant corruption in government agencies is causing such situations, as the terrorists may entice the corrupt persons to sabotage the country’s intelligence network. N. S. Venkataraman Chennai Terrorist attacksIndia is only behind Iraq and Afghanistan in the number of people killed by terrorists in a country. There has been a series of terrorist attacks regularly in our country. In all these years, hardly any person or group has been held, tried or finally punished and convicted. Law-enforcing agencies seem to be toothless without enforcing stringent laws. In the meantime, the terrorists do their nefarious acts and move around in society with complete freedom. What we need now are stringent laws to book terrorists before they wreck damage on innocent people. Investigating agencies have to be strengthened with men, material, resources and advanced training. The authorities should work hard, bring the culprits before the judiciary with charge-sheets. Punishment in these cases should be swift and exemplary. It should set an example for other probable wrong-doers Severe punishment must be made mandatory for terrorist offences against society. In some ways, we have to revise our views on the currently followed Anglo Saxon jurisprudence and adopt some of the measures found in West Asia. Strict laws in those countries are really found to be a deterrent. This is the only way we can protect innocent people from being killed or maimed by terrorists again and again. K.
