Our Bureau Hyderabad, Sept. 16 Manufacturers of bulk drugs should invest in scaling-up their product diversity and quality, said Mr G.V. Prasad, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. Speaking on ‘Sustaining Competitive Environment in Industry’, a seminar organised by the Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association of India (BDMA) here on Tuesday, Mr Prasad said the bulk drug units should also increase their compliance with global regulatory norms to sustain growing competition from other countries. “One way to sustain competition is forging partnerships and alliances to increase value and expand offerings. We, at Dr Reddy’s, also believe in this,” he said. Dr Reddy’s has about 20 such industry partnerships/alliances which bring more than Rs 100 crore of value individually, he added. personalised medicineDr Lalji Singh, Director, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, said the pharmaceutical industry needs to prepare itself for personalised medicine which would become prominent in the days to come. “With genome sequencing and increasing awareness about genomic medicine, people will become more aware/particular about the drug they use. You may have to suit drugs to the specific requirement of different genetic sections of population, especially for major disorders,” he said. Personalised medicine would be more relevant to India in view of the genetic diversity of its population, he added. More Stories on : Outlook | Pharmaceuticals | Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd
