Letters Tackling terror The article “Taming the demons” (Business Line, September 16) was timely and relevant. Unless we evolve a national consensus on terror, the approach to tackling it will be lopsided and divisive elements, both from within the country and outside, will be the gainers. There needs to be unity of purpose at all levels — political, administrative and judicial. Terror in India has multiple manifestations, with support from across the border, religious fanaticism from within, economic terrorism, such as groups that carried out the blockade in Kashmir and sympathisers of militancy in neighbouring countries. As these constitute a melange of forces with diverse tactics, the approach to confronting this scourge should be unified and strong across the country. However, it is anything but that. The battle against terror is mired in conflict within our polity and multiple enforcing agencies bent on scoring brownie points over one another while the perpetrators of heinous crimes carry on with impunity.
