Coonoor, Sept. 17 An analysis of the catalogues of the various auctioneers shows that only 10.15 lakh kg would be offered for Sale No: 38 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association to be held on Thursday and Friday. This is the lowest volume in the past 24 weeks.

It is as much as 1.31 lakh kg less than last week’s offer. It is one lakh kg lower than the volume offered this time last year.

Fresh arrivals account for 9.40 lakh kg in the offer of 10.15 lakh kg. The balance comprises teas remaining unsold in the previous auctions.

Of the 10.15 lakh kg on offer, 7.25 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 2.90 lakh kg belong to the dust grades. Again, as much as 9.47 lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only 0.68 lakh kg belong to orthodox variety.

The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.33 lakh kg belong to orthodox, while 6.92 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 0.35 lakh kg belong to orthodox, while 2.55 lakh kg, CTC.

Auctioneers said that with lower volume, the market could continue to be buoyant if last week’s strong demand persisted. Last week, fresh records were set up.
