Jairam Ramesh to open BL Club meet at SRM University today


The objective of the BL Club is to emphasise the concept of “corporate interface to the corporate world.”

Chennai, Sept. 17 The Business Line Club, originally set up in 2004 at what is now the SRM University, will be inaugurated on Thursday for the academic year 2008-09 at the same institution by Mr Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister of State for Power and Commerce. Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) will be the presenting sponsor for the BL Club activities for this year.

Participating in the inaugural function at SRM University in Kattangalathur near Chennai would be Mr T. R. Pachamuthu, Chancellor, SRM University; Mr S. A. Bhat, Chairman and Managing Director, IOB; Mr N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu; Mr K. Venugopal, Joint Editor, Business Line; and Mr P. Sathyanarayanan, Vice-Chancellor, SRM University.

The club, which provides a platform for corporate-academia interface, is an initiative started by The Hindu Business Line, whereby students, mostly from professional courses such as the MBA programmes, are supplied the newspaper at special rates and get to participate in interactive sessions with stalwarts from the corporate world in a variety of fields ranging from HR and IT to advertising, marketing and strategy.

The objective of the BL Club is to emphasise the concept of “corporate interface to the corporate world.”

The association with IOB will enhance the value of the club and impart more knowledge and benefit to the members. The BL Club, which started off by enrolling 17 institutions and 1,545 students, now has over 100 member institutions and more than 20,000 students as members in the Chennai region. In 2008-09, the plan is to sign on more than 25,000 members and organise more than 100 guest lectures across this region.
