`Peace essential for growth'

Mangalore, Sept. 17

The Karnataka Home Minister, Dr V.S. Acharya, has said that peace is essential for the overall growth of Dakshina Kannada district. Chairing a peace committee meeting in Mangalore on Wednesday, following the recent violent clashes in the district, he said that the region is attracting investments in various sectors, and it is essential to maintain peace and harmony in the region. The Government is bound to provide security for all sections of society, he said. Those who attended the meeting suggested that such peace committee meetings should be held periodically. It is better to start such meetings at ward levels. These measures would help find weak points in the system and provide corrective measures for them, they added. - Our Bureau
