General Insurance States - Andhra Pradesh Rajiv Arogyasri: Minister warns hospitals Our Bureau Visakhapatnam, Sept. 18 The Andhra Pradesh Government is keen on proper implementation of the Rajiv Arogyasri health insurance scheme, meant for providing costly medical treatment to the poor, and any lapses on the part of private, or corporate hospitals, will not be tolerated, according to Ms. G. Aruna Kumari, the State Health Minister. At a review meeting conducted with the district officials here on Thursday, the Minister said that one of the frequent complaints was that the hospitals were neglecting post-operative care, resulting in many deaths, after bypass surgeries and other operations. She said such referral hospitals would be immediately blacklisted. She suggested formation of special cells to distribute medicines and supervise post-operative care. She also referred to complaints that some of the hospitals were turning away patients on the ground that facilities were not available with them for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and other sophisticated scans. She said it was the responsibility of hospitals to get the tests done somehow and attend to the patients. The latter should not be put to distress. She also told the superintendent of the King George Hospital here that steps should be taken to buy ventilators and other required equipment from the allotted funds.
