Tea Strong demand for CTC teas at N Indian auctions Our Bureau Kolkata, Sept 21 Last week, the CTC teas at North Indian auction centres of Kolkata, Siliguri and Guwahati met with strong demand at irregularly dearer rates, particularly for fannings and dust, according to leading tea auctioneers. The major blender was active while there was good support from Tata Tea and other packeteers. The Western Indian buyers actively supported the liquoring categories while other internal and local buyers and exporters operated as usual. In the Darjeeling section, the better whole leaf and broken grades were barely steady while fannings were around last. Traditional exporters and packeteers operated. There were inquiries from the UK/Continent while local buyers offered good support. In the Orthodox sale, the whole leaf and larger brokens tended lower while smaller brokens and fannings were barely steady. There was good support from West Asian and CIS shippers and fair enquiry from the major blender. Most plantations district reported seasonable weather but green leaf intake was below that of the previous year. INTERNATIONALThe Mombassa market saw selected better sorts around last levels while the remainder eased in value. Kazakhstan showed more activity while Egyptian packers, Sudan, Yemen and other West Asian countries were more active though at lower levels. There was maintained interest from Pakistan while the UK was more selective. Afghanistan, Russia, Bazaar and the Egyptian Government were quiet. Somalia was active at easier levels at the lower end of the market. The Colombo auction saw a firm to dearer trend except for those showing a decline in quality which eased irregularly. There was improved enquiry from CIS while better liquoring sorts were absorbed by the UK/Continent and Japan. More Stories on : Tea
