As the State gets more aid from the Centre to promote tourism, he said it can be converted into a most-sought after global tourism destination with its scenic hill stations, water bodies, all-round greenery, moderate climate, rich heritage and above all, a peace loving society. The Chief Minister pointed out that improving infrastructure is essential to attract more visitors. The Vizhinam Transhipment Terminal and Kannur airport projects would become a reality within the coming three years. Efforts were also on to implement the Kochi metro project, he added. Speaking on the occasion, the State Tourism Minister, Mr Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, said that the State’s tourism sector is a good example of successful public-private partnership. By making tourism beneficial to the local community, the State had set a model for sustainable growth, he said.
