Our Bureau

Vijayawada, Sept. 21

Skoda India is seeking to increase its presence and market share in the South by opening several new showrooms, according to Mr Karsten Bogun, Managing Director of the company.

He spoke at Gudavalli near here on Saturday after the opening of a Skoda showroom. It is the third Skoda showroom in the State, after the ones in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.

Mr Karsten said that Skoda India, which started operations in India in 2001, could capture 6 per cent market share in the luxury car segment. The latest model, Fabia, was selling well and so far 5,000 cars had been sold, he added.

Mr Ashutosh Dixit, General Manager (Sales), said a third of the company’s sales were from South India and new models would be launched to attract more customers.

Mr Yashwant Jhabakh, Chairman of the Mahavir Group, said his company was the sole dealer for Skoda cars in the State and Orissa and that it had more than 6,000 customers across Andhra Pradesh. More than a thousand cars had been sold here, he added.
