Six study programmes for MSME sector launched

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Sept. 22 The National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Ni-msme) has launched two new international and four national programmes.

The programmes were launched by the Union Minister for Urban Development, Mr S. Jaipal Reddy, in the presence of Mr Dinesh Rai, Union Secretary for Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, here on Saturday.

“One of the international programmes is on Communication Skills in English and Promotion of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The focus of the programme is to understand the concepts and applications, especially in the development and promotion of the MSME sector,” said Prof. N.R. Prasad Reddy, Programme Director.

Manpower need

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Reddy said that there was a dearth of skilled manpower such as masons and plumbers for implementing the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

“For this, the ITIs across the country need to be reinvented and multiplied. The training programmes of institutes also need to be upgraded to meet the demands of the industry,” he said.

‘understand value’

Mr Reddy also said that people don’t understand the tremendous value of the MSME sector. “Most of the major units which are coming up depend a lot on the ancillary units and by definition, ancillary units belong to this sector.

“Banks also need to address the problem that small entrepreneurs have with respect to raising funds so that it will help the sector develop,” the Minister said.
