‘Need for review of industrial dispute resolution system’
Our Bureau
New Delhi, Sept. 22 It has become necessary to review the industrial disputes resolution system practiced in the country following the process of economic liberalisation and the restructuring should focus on bipartite consultation, building of trust by sharing of information at the enterprise level and voluntary arbitration rather than resolution of disputes through adjudication.
This was stated by the Labour Minister, Mr Oscar Fernandes, while inaugurating the Third India-EU Seminar on “Employment Relations and Resolution of Conflicts” here today.
The Minister said that the relationship between the employer and the employee is based on mutual adjustment of interests and goals involving economic, social, psychological and political factors.
He said that continuous dialogue between the two parties is a pre-requisite for healthy employer-employee relationships, and also for the economic prosperity of the establishment they work for and for the nation.
The changing role of the State, competitive pressures of globalisation, technological changes and changing work organisation along with the introduction of contractual employment and outsourcing by employers has also impacted the employment relations scenario in the country, Mr Fernandes pointed out.
