International flora expo to focus on biz potential

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Sept 23 The Indian floriculture industry is facing a paradigm shift. A slowdown in exports is being largely neutralised by robust growth of 15-20 per cent in domestic sales, a sign of the country’s growing affluence.

The domestic flower and seed market is currently estimated at Rs 1,000 crore with potential to expand ten times to a whopping Rs 10,000 crore in the next few years. Such growth would generate large trade and investment opportunities for entrepreneurs even while ensuring incomes for growers. It is in this very optimistic background that New Delhi will host the 4th International Flora Expo 2008 along with the 3rd International Landscape and Gardening Expo during September 26-28. The event will seek to highlight the potential business and investment opportunities in this fast growing agri business, according to Mr S. Jafar Naqvi of Media Today Group and iFlora (Indian Flowers and Ornamental Plants Welfare Association), the organisers and event managers.

Opportunity

Mr Naqvi said , State horticulture departments wouldhave an opportunity to take advantage of National Horticulture Missions programmes.
