Our Bureau Singur, Sept. 23 All contractors supplying construction equipment at the Tata Motors factory in Singur have been asked to shift their equipment. “We have been asked by authority to remove all construction equipment from the factory as work is not expected to resume in the near future,” a contractor told Business Line on condition of anonymity. It was also wiser to shift equipment to other construction projects rather than keep them idle indefinitely, he added. All work at the Singur factory has been suspended and no labourer has turned up since August 24 when the opposition leader Ms Mamata Banerjee launched her agitation in front of the factory. Fresh troubleWhile the dharna has been withdrawn for the time being throwing open the Durgapur Expressway for vehicular movement, fresh trouble was recorded at the factory on Monday night as a number of people infiltrated the boundary walls and allegedly beat up two security personnel. “Around 8-10 people crossed the wall from the village side and beat up two of our colleagues,” a security guard at the factory said, adding that the two victims were admitted to hospital with injuries . A police officer posted at the site said, “We are not increasing the police force inside the factory based on the incident. But the mobility of our men will be increased, particularly at night, around the boundary wall and in places where there are vital installations.” Currently, about 800 policemen are posted inside the factory, he added.
