Banking Money & Banking - Trade & Labour Unions Bank strike on as talks fail Our Bureau New Delhi, Sept. 23 Nearly a million bank employees and officers are to strike work on Wednesday and Thursday as the conciliatory talks held here today between the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) under the aegis of Chief Labour Commissioner (CLC), Mr S.K. Mukhopadhya, failed to yield any results. “We have decided to implement the strike on September 24 and 25 as planned. IBA could not offer the commitments that we had sought,” said Mr C.H. Venkatachalam, Convenor, UFBU. At today’s meeting, the UFBU asked IBA to give a timeframe for resolving the bank unions’ demands on wage revision, pension option and compassionate appointment. It is understood that UFBU also wanted IBA to give a commitment that reforms like privatisation of banks, merger of banks and amendment to Banking Regulation Act will not be implemented. The Government had called IBA and the UFBU for talks here last week. With talks being inconclusive, the CLC had called for another round of discussions today.
