Tea 25-week low offer at Coonoor tea auction P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Sept. 24 A volume of 10.57 lakh kgs has been catalogued for Sale No: 39 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) to be held on Thursday and Friday. This is the lowest volume in the past 25 weeks except for last week when 10.15 lakh kgs were offered. It is as much as 1.15 lakh kgs lower than the volume offered during the same period last year. Fresh arrivals continue to be at large. They account for 10.03 lakh kgs in the total offer of 10.57 lakh kgs. Of the 10.57 lakh kgs on offer, 7.61 lakh kgs belong to the leaf grades and 2.96 lakh kgs belong to the dust grades. Again, as much as 9.84 lakh kgs belong to the CTC variety and only 0.73 lakh kgs were of the orthodox variety. Orthodox lessThe proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.35 lakh kgs belong to the orthodox, while 7.26 lakh kgs were of the CTC variety. For the first time since the commencement of CTTA auctions, about 50 marks of CTC teas from bought-leaf factories representing the private small-scale tea sector entered the Rs 100 price-band.
