Outlook Akamai Tech upbeat; sees Net penetration improving L.N. Revathy Coimbatore, Sept. 24 Provider of high level solution for online content and application development, Akamai Technologies is expecting to make its ‘next big jump’ with increased IT adoption and broadband penetration. In its recently released ‘State of the Internet report’ with unique insights on India, the company noted that India had just two unique IPs per 1,000 people on average. It believes that the Internet penetration would improve significantly in the coming years, both due to economic boom and IT adoption. “The kick-start is still the broadband penetration. The country’s high broadband IP per capita is .00001 (one IP with speeds above 5 Mbps per one-lakh people). The percentage of connections with speeds less than 256 Kbps is 26 per cent,” says its Managing Director (India operations) and Vice-President (Global services and support), Mr Sanjay Singh. Stating that India is a key market for Akamai, Mr Singh told Business Line that its Web Application Accelerator used by customers to run various applications) and IP Application Accelerator (designed to address core Internet weaknesses) have opened up a new market for the company.
