Headhunters spot prospects in SEZs

Anjali Prayag

Bangalore, Sept. 25 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have infused a new zest into the headhunting business.

With over Rs 300,000 crore investment expected to be invested into 362 SEZsthus, creating over four million jobs, both directly and indirectly, in the next two to three years, leading headhunters are creating special task forces to tap yet another sunrise industry.

Global staffing solutions firm Adecco India is gearing up to provide strategic partnerships to SEZs both for executive recruitment and for temp staffing.

Team creation

“We have spotted an opportunity here and are creating teams but the whole recruitment process would take time as land acquisition is a long process in the country,” says Mr Sudhakar Balakrishnan, CEO, India and Middle East, Adecco.

Currently, it is estimated that the 133 notified SEZs across the country employ close to a lakh people for their operations.

Domain experts

Mr Sheaker B.R., Managing Director, Mind Group, a Bangalore-based recruitment firm, says that his company is already hiring domain experts for SEZs in Mangalore, Hyderabad and Coimbatore.

SEZs are created against special sectors such as ports and shipping in Mangalore, aerospace and aviation in Hyderabad and heavy engineering in Coimbatore.

Mind Group has recruited a manufacturing expert, head of ports and an aerospace specialist for these SEZs.

“These are new entities offering huge recruitment opportunities, but we are unsure of the numbers,” says Mr Sheakar.

Greenfield scope

Ma Foi Management Consultants, the Chennai-based HR firm, is constantly looking for any greenfield opportunity and SEZs is one of them, says its CEO, Mr E. Balaji.

In fact, Ma Foi has created a special task force that spots such opportunities and SEZ is definitely one among them, he added.
