Public Sector Banks States - Gujarat Corporation Bank targets Gujarat dairy farmers A.J. Vinayak Mangalore, Sept. 25 Dairy farmers are emerging as a major segment of customers for the branchless banking model of Corporation Bank, if the present trends and future plans are any indication. The bank, which did a pilot project for members of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, is now eyeing Gujarat dairy farmers for implementing its branchless banking model. It has plans to set up around 200 branchless banking units for dairy farmers in Gujarat. Mr B. Sambamurthy, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank, told Business Line that at present the bank has around 200 branchless banking units in the country. Of them, 32 are catering to the needs of dairy farmers in Chittoor district. Now the bank, in association with NDDB, is planning to introduce branchless banking units in Valsad and Mehsana districts of Gujarat. Plans are there to introduce 200 branchless banking units in these districts in a span of one year. “Of them, 10-15 units would start functioning shortly,” he said.
