Orra to set up two more jewellery facilities

Phalguna Jandhyala

Hyderabad, Sept. 26 Orra, through a group company, will be setting up two more manufacturing units with a total capacity of 75,000 jewellery pieces a month, catering to both domestic and export requirements.

“One unit will come up in Mumbai by the end of the current fiscal with an investment of $0.5 million, while the other will be in Surat (operations in 18 months) with an investment of $5 million and have a production capacity of 60,000 pieces a month,” Mr Vijay Jain, Chief Executive Officer, Orra-The Diamond Destination, told Business Line here on Friday.

New stores

The company, part of the $2-billion Belgium-based Rosy Blue Group, currently has its unit in Goa with a capacity of 10,000 pieces a month. In the next three years, it plans to invest around Rs 25 crore in key cities for setting up eight new stores. It currently has 35 stores across 23 cities, with the latest one being inaugurated in the city on Friday.

The company also plans to focus on larger format, 1,500 sq ft to 3,000 sq ft, anchor showrooms from 2009. “The first anchor showroom (European interiors with Indian hospitality) was inaugurated in Hyderabad, the next one will be in Mumbai next month, followed by one in Delhi in March or April next year,” Mr Jain said.

Tie ups

According to Mr Jain, the company polishes rough diamonds in Belgium and then imports them to India. Orra has tie-ups with three organisations — DTC (DeBeers), PGI (Platinum Guild India) and World Gold Council. It has design centres in New York, Antwerp, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Mumbai.
