Outlook Marketing - Market Shares
Our Bureau Hyderabad, Sept. 29 Bajaj Auto is gunning for a larger slice of the 125 cc category and above market, wherein the company already accounts for a share of over 51 per cent. Launching the company’s new 125 cc offering, Platina 125 DTS-Si, here on Monday, the company said the market for 125 cc and above is growing rapidly. From barely about 6 per cent in 2001-2002 it has now gone up at about 36 per cent. Significantly, during the year, the 125 cc and above segment has grown by about 14 per cent as opposed to 9 per cent of the sub-125 cc category. ‘More fuel-efficient’Trends point towards increasing purchase preference for 125 cc and above category as they now combine the features of more powerful bikes with fuel efficiency, Mr K.B. Mohanty, Senior Manager, Bajaj Auto, said. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Mohanty said the 125 cc bike of Bajaj is priced below or on a par with some of the 100 cc bikes in the market and is also more fuel-efficient, given the new technological features that have been incorporated. With the twin spark technology, the use of fuel is optimised, he said. Bank exposureAsked about the impact of banks bringing down exposure to two-wheeler loans, Mr Mohanty said that this is true for the industry but will not have much impact in the longer run. However, Bajaj Auto has the advantage of financing two-wheelers through its own financing arm at attractive rates, he said.
