Idea services in Bihar, Jharkhand

Mumbai, Sept. 30

Idea Cellular said on Tuesday that it has launched its GSM mobile telephony services in Bihar & Jharkhand through its wholly owned subsidiary Aditya Birla Telecom. According to a press release, Idea will cover over 16,500 towns and villages by March 2009.

"With IDEA's launch in Bihar and Jharkhand we now cover 80 per cent of the Indian telephony market, moving closer everyday to our goal of emerging as a leading cellular operator," said Mr Sanjeev Aga, Managing Director, IDEA Cellular Ltd.

The Aditya Birla Group-company is starting off with an initial network of over 880 cell sites, the press release stated. Idea has also tied up with over 18,000 multi brand outlets and plans to expand this to over 50,000 by March end. The company scrip was up by 6.73 per cent to close at Rs 75.35 on the BSE. - Our Bureau
