Farm workers at work near Thrissur in Kerala. The State Government intends to set up labour banks at panchayat level as part of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme to supply workers for farming and allied activities. The move is aimed at ensuring work for labourers throughout the year and eliminating middlemen in labour sector. The first labour bank has been launched at Akathethara in Palakkad district.
