Bonus for Railway employees

New Delhi, Oct 3

About 13.25 lakh non-gazetted Railway employees will receive wages of 73 days as Productivity Linked Bonus for 2007-08 with the Union Cabinet approving the Railway Ministry proposal on the issue. The Government also decided to enhance the wage ceiling to Rs 3500 (from Rs 2500) a month with effect from April 1, 2006 for payment of bonus. The two moves will cost Railways about Rs 1243 crore -- Rs 972 crore for 2007-08 and Rs 271 crore as arrears for the period from April 1, 2006. Thus, bonus for 2006-07 and 2007-08 will be calculated on the basis of the revised ceiling of Rs 3500. About 13.25 lakh non-gazetted Group B, C and D employees would benefit from this step, according to an official statement. Last year, the Railways had paid bonus to its employees for 70 days.
