IIT Madras Open House from today

Chennai, Oct. 3 In a bit to enthuse students to take up higher education and research the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras will organise Open House 2008 to showcase its range of activities encompassing both education and research.

The event will be organised on October 4 and 5 as part of the institute’s golden jubilee celebrations. It will also provide an opportunity for triggering research collaboration between industry and IIT Madras, according to the institute’s Director, Prof M.S. Ananth.

This is the second such open house that IIT Madras will organise. The first was during its silver jubilee celebrations, he told newspersons.

Professionals from industries and government organisations, students from schools and colleges and the general public are invited to visit the institute to know about the ongoing projects and research in frontier areas of science and technology, management and humanities.

Each department’s technological success stories that have made a different to society will be showcased. For example, there will be live demonstration of water quality testing; display of sea hawk airplane; generation of current from lemon and math workshop. Selected laboratories will be kept open for public viewing, he said.

The Department of Defence Research and Development will showcase its T72 and Arjun battle tanks. The IIT Madras has made a lot of contribution in developing Arjun, he said.
